Key Bus Éireann Routes to Cork, Galway and Limerick Axed

The Bus Éireann move is a significant step towards privatisation of the state bus company Bus Éireann has just announced that it will be cutting Expressway services between Dublin and three other cities (Galway, Limerick and Cork) from early 2021, the service will cease when the emergency supports (COVID) for the routes expire which is expected to happen early next year. The company also said that the X51 Express Route from Galway to Limerick suspended due to COVID-19, is being permanently closed. The board of Bus Éireann has said it made the decision to close the routes, which it says are losing money, in order to protect core Public Service Obligation routes. The board informed staff that

HSE Plans closure of Ireland's only drug treatment centre for youth

Ireland continues to have one of the highest drug mortality rates in Europe Cara Lodge, located in Enniskeane, West Cork, is Ireland's only dedicated drug addiction treatment facility for young people. On September 9th last month, operational staff at the lodge were informed that it would close with immediate effect this October with twenty-five jobs to be eliminated. Cara Lodge was run by the Matt Talbot Adolescent Service (MTAS), a charity set up in Cork city over twenty years ago. The Cork-based MTAS charity treats over two hundred teenagers and young adults every year for addiction and related problems. Destruction of Neo-Gothic Convent of Mercy Chapel in Skibbereen

Cork (Heritage) “The balanced coherent design is complemented by the high quality craftsmanship employed in the execution of the masonry throughout the building.” Convent of Mercy, Skibbereen, Buildings Of Ireland Last Tuesday, 29th September, a major fire virtually destroyed the former Convent of Mercy in Skibbereen, extensively damaging the building and causing the church roof to collapse. Local residents living nearby in a number of single housing units run by the town's Geriatric Society were evacuated.
